Birdie
by save me
A little black birdie chirps at me as I balance there
He doesn't understand why I'm doing this
I smile at him and it looks as if maybe he might just care
I blow Little Birdie a kiss.
The sky above me roars and flashes
Is this how it is supposed to be?
A single raindrop falls upon my lashes
Is there something I'm supposed to see?
I push all thoughts away
As I put one foot over the ledge
Why oh why is this such a dreadful holiday?
All of the happy people below the edge.
I take a deep breath and say, "I'm sorry, my love, I am not good enough for you."
All of the feelings rushing past me
As I fall, I think only of you.
I'm sorry I wasn't what you wanted me to be.
