A clean break is always best and I know it will hurt both of you. Maybe when you two run across each other in the future, you will understand that it was for the best. Break clean!

I don't believe he knows what he wants. To break away is good, time heals all wounds, and makes the heart grow fonder, we have all heard this before.
If it's really meant to be, you will find each other again. I do believe that you should stay in some sort of contact, so you can have a healthy closure.
However, I wouldn't let him know where you are living. Because his behavior is not healthy from what you are describing. You never know when someone will snap, so just make safe boundaries for yourself.
Kindness is always best though; it makes it more difficult for someone to harm you in any way when you are kind.
