Grandparent Poem: A Celebration of Grandparents

Grandparent Poem ...

Our grandparent poem and quote collection touches the heart of what it is to be a grandparent. Although you've raised children of your own, now you don't have to worry about all the responsibilities that come with parenting. You've earned the right to enjoy being a grandparent.

Truth be told, there's nothing better than being a grandparent. All our elders know this and it is evidenced by that twinkle in their eyes. Of course, they know more than they let on—life's secrets have come to them through time, experience, and patience.

We are looking for grandparent poem submissions. If you have a poem you've written, please submit it using the Contact Us link on the navigation bar. If it is suitable for our audience, we will post it on our web site. Your copyright will still belong to you.

Grandparent Poem:

I remember soft and gentle hands
Reaching out to dry my tears
I remember warm and loving arms
That chased away my fears
Someone that I could run to
Who always made sure she was there
An ear that would patiently listen
Someone who always cared
There's something rare and wonderful
Gold placed in a grandmother's heart
Something he knew a child would need
Right from the very start
Heaven has a place reserved
For grandmothers sweet and kind
But I had a little Heaven on earth
In the grandmother I called mine

Grandparent Poem:

My Grandmother

by Laura Ramirez
Copyright © 2006

My grandmother's lap is soft and warm
Her eyes are bright and kind,
She hushes me with lullabies
And soothes my overactive mind.

She wakes me up for school each day
A twinkle in her eye
Her back is stooped and creaky
Yet her spirit's strong and spry.

I know sometimes her hips ache
As she whirls me across the floor
She says, "Life is meant for dancing"
As we waltz on out the door.

It's really just the two of us—my Gran and me
While mom and dad scurry here and there
Grandma teaches what they've forgotten:
Take Time, Enjoy, Show Love, Give Care.

Few things are more delightful than grandchildren
fighting over your lap.

One of life's greatest mysteries is how the boy
who wasn't good enough to marry your daughter
can be the father of the smartest grandchild in the world.
