Just Best Friends?

I have a really close boy mate, we are with each other near enough every day, we have all these inside jokes and quotes and we both get along well with each other's families.

We have slept together once when we had been drinking, and there have been a few other times alone when there has definitely been some sexual tension.

I've heard from around that he likes me and I know for sure I have feelings for him, but he's always getting girlfriends he only keeps for like a week and he comes to me and complains how he just wants to find someone he can have a laugh with and a good solid relationship, and I do the same, in fact, the last guy I dated couldn't trust me because he knew me and my friend were too close.
It's like we both want to be with each other, but neither of us actually have the guts to admit it.

What should I do?

Even though I cherish our friendship, I want to be with him!
