Lightning Strikes in the Oddest Places
by Riley

Forgive me loving rain
draw back your lightning bolt
I wish not that for my honesty I will have sinned
do not see me as a sinner
yet I have sinned
and for this sin I will pay a price
my dearest sacrifice to give
Address the clouds in heaven
that heaven that scarce exists
and pray to them they may forgive
that sin which I have sinned
my honesty I cannot retrieve
the words have been spoken
and no treasure can be awarded for its revival
and so I sit in torture
watching the clouds darken
I know the rain is coming
I hear your thunderous cries
but all the while I ignore them
hoping you pass me by
But no good deed goes unpunished
no sin goes unrewarded
but you sit you watch and grow with fire
and now rain you pour upon my heart
beating in rhythm to its already fragile wounds
not wounds you created but wounds that bloomed
and now you shall physically end that agony
and I promise I will not fight
so begin that which you have saved
your lightning shall not go unused
But I will not be brave
for I shall miss the smell of the air
and the way the light used to bounce
off everything that was unfortunate enough
to feel that lighted wrath
and I will miss your refreshing raindrops
that flowed upon my skin
Never failing to keep me cool
In the heated sun above
So goodbye my greatest pain
that which I loved forever
and even though you hurt me now
I have sinned in every endeavor
