Loads of times but i still love him x

We have been out loads of times on and off for two years we went out three weeks ago it was going absolutely great he told me he loved me i felt loved i have never got over him then yesterday he dumped me i cried and cried this is what he said :
'I'm sorry but I don't think we should go out anymore it's me ok... I'm not ready for a long term relationship I hope you get well soon and I won't mess with ur life again like u say "life goes on." sorry'
But he has been in longer relationships before 4-6 months with other girls.
So i don't know if i should believe this or is it just an excuse, what do u think?
The thing is he said he wont mess with my life again that means he wont ask me out again but i still love him what should i do?
