long distance

I'm 33 and he's 25 and we've been talking online and the phone for sometime and we are going to finally meet next month. We live about 4 and one-half hours from each other and we like each other right now and we are sure we will like each other more when we meet. My question is do I have a chance to be happy with this man if we are so far apart? Can we make it work?

Long Distance Relationship
by: Laura Love

It's tough to make a long distance relationship work, but what is important—your ability to be present for the other person—is just not possible because of the miles between you. Of course, you can be there for each other through telephone calls and emails, but it's really not the same.

A long distance relationship is often based on fantasy because it's like going on vacation with someone you really like: both parties anticipate their time together so much that they are on their best behavior, so it's difficult to discover what this person is like for instance, when they're not feeling well, when they're moody or when they've had a bad day. In short, it's hard to gain insight into the other person's character because you don't get to see how they react in every day situations.

Although I've presented some negatives here, it is possible for a long distance relationship to work ... for awhile ... because if you really like each other and enjoy each other's company, eventually, you'll want to move closer together.
