One glance

It took but a mere glace
in your direction
on the first day of school.
I was simply looking around for others I knew,
but when I saw you my heart froze.
When you looked straight at me,
it then sped up faster that time.
And when you talked to me for the first time
it seemed as though my mouth and lungs
wouldn't work at all.
