Playing Hard to Get?

So there's this guy who is on a break from his girlfriend for a while because they always fight, and I met him through my best friends who are guys. Well within a week we had hung out three times and the third time he kissed me. After that he acted like nothing happened, which I was fine with because I figured it didn't matter that much.

But we start texting, and he starts calling me Dear, and flirting. We hang out twice after we started texting and the second time we go longboarding then end up back at my house watching movies with the guy that introduced me to him.

My friend falls asleep so the guy (Lets call him J now) and I get cuddled up because I was cold. It was 2 in the morning when that happened, and from then til 6 AM he kept getting close to my lips like he was going to kiss me but would move away. Finally at 6 he gave me a small kiss though.

Well the next day he again acted like nothing happened and then didn't text me all day. I guess what my question is, what is he doing? He went from all confident about kissing me to playing hard to get and now I can't get him off my mind. Is he just trying to frustrate me or what??
