Shattered Glass

by Aurora
(Florida)

My story is a short one, since I'm only 16, and this story is not an old one. It is not one covered in dust that has rusted from years of neglect. This story is recent, last year in fact, but it has healed all the same.

I recently moved to a small town after living for several years overseas with my military family. I thought it would be great. A new start, a new school, new friends! I couldn't wait. Well when the school year started, I met a boy. We'll call him James. James was everything I was looking for in a guy at that point and I really thought I could love him. I also became friends with James' ex-girlfriend, we'll call her Mina.

One day at the mall, I became distressed because I saw James there. I went to the bathroom to get away from all the people and he followed me into the hall leading to the bathrooms. We talked and ended up walking outside together. He eventually got it out of me that I loved him. Or at least I thought I did.

It was the biggest mistake of my life because the next week, he broke my heart and started dating his ex-girlfriend again. I'll never forget the betrayal I felt but I am thankful for it. James was an egocentric, gross, young man with bad habits and I am better off without him.

Sometimes you can't judge a book by it's cover.
