The Best Night Ever

Why Men Withdraw From Women

The Best Night Ever

So I'd always liked this guy since middle school. The only issue was that he was quite a few years older than me. Yeah, we flirted and hugged and teased each other, but I never thought it meant anything. He moved away a year later and I started seeing someone else. We dated for over a year, and he suddenly decided to cheat on me, so we broke up pretty violently.

While I was recovering from what I thought was the love of my life, I decided to go out on a Friday night. By now I was a junior in high school, and my parents allowed me to stay out until close to two in the morning.

While I was there, I saw the guy I'd liked since middle school. Now this is something that I've never, ever told anyone. While I was dating my ex-boyfriend for that year and three months, I always imagined my middle school crush. And I know that makes me sound heartless, but I couldn't help it.

So anyway, while I was laughing and talking to my friends, my crush called me over to his group of friends. He got close and started whispering things into my ear, silly jokes and remarks about the people standing around. And I'd laugh and go along with it, just like old times.

Then he brought up the subject of whether or not I was dating anyone. I said no, that my boyfriend and I had broken up about two or three weeks before. He asked who and I told him, and he pulled a face that made me laugh, because it described my feelings at the time.

Later, he pulled me outside so we could talk one-on-one. While we chatting, he brought up my ex again. It still really hurt talking about him, but I went along with it. While I was talking about the relationship we used to have and how it ended, my crush wrapped his arms around waist and put his forehead against mine. My heart was beating really fast now, and all thoughts of my ex disappeared.

But of course, someone opened the door and said someone wanted to talk to my crush. So the mood was ruined, my heart was crumbling again, and I couldn't even keep hugging my crush.

I followed him back inside and I didn't see him again for an hour or two. Then someone suddenly grabbed my sides, making me jump and shriek. Then I realized it was my crush. He wrapped his arms around me, despite everyone standing around us. He said to me, "You give the best hugs." And he after that he kept pulling me into hugs. It was the best feeling ever.

Around 1:30, everyone was dispersing and heading home or to another party. I was getting ready to leave and standing outside, talking to some friends when he called me over. I walked over, purposely taking my time to be see if I could annoy him. Of course, I'd never intend to actually make him mad.

He met me half way and pulled me into another hug, making my heart skip a beat, like it had all night. Someone started calling after him, but he ignored them and looked down at me. He bit his lip like he wanted to say something, but smiled instead. "So I'll see you later?" he asked me, still looking as though he was debating something.

I nodded, a little disappointed. Suddenly, one of his friends yelled to him, "Just kiss her already!"

My cheeks turned bright red and he chuckled before reaching up and brushing his thumb against my lips. His lips replaced his thumb and his arms wrapped around my waist, pulling me closer to him.

I smiled into the kiss and wrapped my arms around his neck, stepping on my tiptoes. After what seemed like eternity, we pulled away. But once we stopped, it felt like only seconds. He said he'd call me the next day or the day after, and I said it sounded good. He turned and walked over to his friends. I paused before smiling to myself and turning for my own.

And I must say, that was the best night ever of my life, and one that I'll never forget.
