Ttick tock
by Kristina Christiansen
(Spokane WA)
Scared to ask,
fearing the answers.
She sits beside the window and waits.
Her arms wrapped around her to give comfort from the cold.
She glances at the clock.
The hands are moving too fast.
She panics.
Trying to keep calm,
her fingernails bite into her arms.
The clock strikes 12.
Time's up.
Tears leak down,
down her cheek as her heart breaks.
The sad salty trails are left behind.
He didn't make it.
He didn't save her.
She sighs and closes her eyes.
She knows what is happening today.
Today is the day she dies.
