It seems to me like this boy has mixed feelings for you. He likes the fact that YOU LIKE him which is tricking himself into thinking he likes you. So then this wears off and he knows he doesn't like you.
Bottom line? He only likes you because you like him, but he doesn't like you enough to want to try.
